Orage violent au Texas
Aux États-Unis, le sud-est du Texas a été frappé samedi par une série d’orages d’une rare violence.
Les pluies diluviennes ont causé des crues subites, transformant plusieurs routes en torrents.
Plus de 150 millimètres de pluie sont tombés en à peine trois heures dans la région de Houston.
Des
vents soufflant en rafales à près de 100 km/h et des averses de grêle
ont endommagé le réseau électrique, laissant 30 000 personnes dans le
noir dans le comté de Harris.
Des centaines d’automobilistes sont restés prisonniers de leur véhicule encerclé par les eaux.
Les autorités ont d’ailleurs dû procéder à plus de 150 opérations de sauvetage.
À
Houston, les services de transports en commun ont également été
interrompus et plusieurs rues étaient fermées à la circulation.

L'Etna entre en Éruption pour la treizième fois cette année
Les résidents de l’île de Sicile, en Italie, ont observé avec attention les soubresauts du volcan Etna tout au long du week-end.
Après avoir craché plusieurs imposants nuages de fumée, le volcan est entré en éruption samedi en fin de journée. Il a craché de la lave et des cendres, donnant un spectacle impressionnant, mais aussi inquiétant, aux résidents des environs.
Selon les autorités, le volcan a projeté de la lave à plusieurs centaines de mètres de hauteur.
Malgré ce regain d’activité, aucune évacuation n’a été nécessaire et aucun vol n’a été retardé ou annulé à l’aéroport Fontanarossa, situé dans la ville de Catane, à proximité du volcan.
Selon l'Institut national de géologie et vulcanologie italien, l’éruption survenue samedi était « très spectaculaire, mais pas inquiétante ».

Officials confirm meteorite hit Wolcott home
WOLCOTT, CT (WFSB) -
Officials at the Yale Peabody Museum confirmed that a meteorite struck a home in Wolcott at the end of last week.
"She told me and I made her repeat it like four times because I'm like, 'A rock?'" said Wendy Taylor. "'A rock came through your roof and into the house?' It just didn't make any sense."
The Wolcott Police Department said local resident Larry Beck called them before 10:30 a.m. Saturday and said a baseball-sized rock crashed through his Williams Court home the night before.
Beck said the rock caused damage to his roof, copper piping and cracked the ceiling in his kitchen before coming to a stop.
"It sounded like a gunshot but it was louder bang," Beck said. "We looked up and saw the ceiling coming down and broke away the sheet rock in the dining room."
Beck reported to police he heard the rock crash through his home Friday at 10:30 p.m., but thought that a joint or rafter had been broken.
When he checked the attic the following morning, he said he found the hole in his roof, the damage to the pipes and the rock.
He said the rock had broken in half.
"For this to crash through asphalt shingles, the roof, smash copper pipe, crack a ceiling, it was moving very quickly," said Wolcott police Chief Edward Stephens.
It was believed that the rock was possibly a broken piece of airport runway concrete that had dropped from an aircraft when the landing gear was being lowered because, Beck said, there is a lot of airport traffic over his home at all hours of the day and night.
Bradley International Airport and Oxford Airport are nearby.
But it wasn't a rock.
The family told Eyewitness News they are just happy no one was hurt.
"Very lucky it happened when it did because someone really could have gotten hurt," Taylor said.
The homeowner did call his insurance company. They are supposed to be out on Wednesday.
Many people in Connecticut told Eyewitness News they heard a loud boom and saw the meteor shower Friday.
We asked if that was related to this, and police said anything is possible.
